Today is day two of Island Batik’s Blog Hop, “Create for a Cause”. The fabric I used is ‘Blinded by Science’, by Jackie Kunkel. The fabrics are so much fun, illustrating molecules, DNA, atoms, formulas and other science representations!

The charity I chose is “Sleep in Heavenly Peace”. This is a local charity that builds beds for children that might be sleeping on the floor for various reasons. Different groups or businesses take on the task of building the beds, usually bunk beds, then through donations they get mattresses, sheets, and pillows for the beds. The particular group that I’m giving my quilt to also wanted to include a quilt on every bed.
I wanted to use my Accuquilt GO! Qube that was given to me last year. I knew it would be fast to help me meet today’s deadline and there would be lots of choices of unit combinations to come up with some cool blocks.
I started with some Four Patch and Half-Square Triangle blocks, and played around with direction on my design wall. I also love to use EQ8 to try out various designs. I wanted to use as many of the “Blinded by Science” fabrics, because I found them interesting, and I hope whoever gets this quilt will enjoy them too.

Cutting with the AccuQuilt Go, I am able to cut six layers at a time and the blocks are accurate and ready to piece.
I pieced my quilt with Schmetz needles, I quilted with Hobbs Cotton batting, and Aurifil’s 40 weight #6726 thread which I had been anxious to try; I loved the results! It will be a nice cuddly quilt for someone special.

Disclosure: The fabrics, thread, batting and needles were generously supplied by the following companies:
