What a stunning wall hanging Deb Tucker’s “Trade Winds” pattern makes. I used richly colored batiks, and the Studio 180 tools to put this together. The Rapid Fire LeMoyne Star ruler creates stars with all your those perfect points. The 4 inch and 6 inch were used in this quilt.
To make the border I used the V Block and Square2 tools. The V Block ruler makes 11 sizes. I used the 2 inch for the border. The ruler tells you the size to cut the units, and has markings to guide you to trim the unit down to a perfect 2 1/2 ” unfinished unit with 1/4″ above the point for accurate piecing.

The Square2 blocks were also 2 inch size. The ruler make 6 different size units. There were 20 in the border so I chain pieced them to make them quickly. They get trimmed down so they will be accurate in the end.
I need to finish the quilt with some Free Motion quilting and send in to Lynn’s Sewing for a class in Fall. Can’t wait to teach it.

I love everything about quilting. I love the colors, the feel of the fabrics, the piecing, the quilting , and even putting on the binding! I free motion quilt using a Bernina 780, longarm quilt (free motion or ruler work), on a Prodigy , and hand quilt when I get a chance.
I have been teaching quilting since 2004, and became a Certified Studio 180 Design Instructor in 2013. In 2020 I became an Island Batik Ambassador, and an Island Batik Designer in 2021. I teach locally at Bernina Connection, in Tallahassee, and travel to guilds and shops to share my love of quilting through a trunk show or workshops, and I also vend at several Quilt Shows in the area.
